Explore Metrics
Explore lets you build a chart from a measure, filters, breakdowns, and a reporting period. Choose a measure first; AndonPulse then offers the product Fields and your company’s available custom Fields from one shared catalog. Changing presentation—such as chart type or stacking—redraws the current Result immediately without rerunning the analytical Query. Changing a measure, filter, breakdown, or reporting period runs the new Query while the previous Result remains visible. Options that conflict with the current query or with a composition the current Result can disprove remain visible but disabled with an explanation.
When a calculation change makes an existing Filter, Breakdown, or Compare choice incompatible, the choice remains in the editor as Not applied so it can be reviewed or removed. It is omitted from chart previews. Saving names the omitted choices and asks for confirmation; the saved chart contains only the effective query. Compare is available only for grouped results, and changing the Breakdown axis clears a Segment baseline because that baseline belonged to the previous axis.
Explore Active-Phase Effort
Choose Effort to measure capacity-bounded person-hours attributed to issues while they were in Active Phases. Effort is additive, so its available summary is Sum.
- Choose Effort as the measure.
- Set the reporting period and choose Day, Week, Month, Quarter, or Year for the trend.
- Add Issue filters, such as project or issue type, to narrow the contributing work.
- Add Issue breakdowns, such as status or project, to compare groups.
- Select a chart value to drill into the supporting issues and their contributions.
Each contribution stays on its recorded calendar date in your reporting window. There is no separate Work Day field: use Time for daily or longer trends. Contributor identity is not an additional Effort dimension; existing Issue fields remain available.
Effort already accounts for concurrent work and the daily capacity cap. The chart does not apply a second cap, convert the value into an hourly rate, or treat the result as currency.
Explore Active FTE
Choose Active FTE to compare selected Effort with the hours of one normative full-time position in the exact reporting period. The reference is eight hours on every Monday through Friday; it does not change for holidays, personal schedules, or time off.
Active FTE recomputes for each whole Window and each partial or complete Time period. Issue filters and Metric filters narrow only the Effort numerator, so non-Time groups in one period all use the same denominator. The Overall value is recalculated for the full Window: do not add successive daily, weekly, or monthly Active FTE values. Drill shows each supporting Issue’s contribution using the same period denominator as the selected chart value.
A period with normative hours and no selected Effort is 0. A weekend-only period has no normative
hours and is unavailable with zero_reference_hours rather than being presented as zero.
Explore Labor Cost
Choose Labor Cost to value those same daily Effort contributions from each resolved Member’s explicit monthly amount and complete schedule before personal time off. Labor Cost is additive: Sum adds the valued daily Issue atoms, including across filters, breakdowns, trends, and Drill.
A Labor Cost result sums every covered Effort contribution. When positive Effort lacks a Member mapping, monthly amount, or usable complete-month schedule, that contribution is excluded and the chart shows a compact advisory. In the Computed table, every affected value keeps its number and shows a warning icon linked to Settings → Members → Labor costs. Use the Missing costs view there to find Members with blank months; blank Member-month cells are highlighted. Dashboard and Gallery tiles place the advisory beside the chart title; Explore places it below the result beside the resolved date window. If every contribution is uncovered, the returned value is zero with the same warning. An entered zero remains a covered zero.
Use Member to filter or break down Effort, Active FTE, and Labor Cost by the person whose contribution is being measured. Billable filters those same contributing Members. Assignee continues to mean the Issue’s current assignee, so it can combine contributions from several Members and is not a reliable way to find whose Labor Cost setting is missing.
Labor Cost has one comparable monetary unit within a company. The backend does not name a currency, convert currencies, derive an hourly-rate setting, or carry an amount into another month.
Pie and stacked charts
AndonPulse draws a Pie or stack only when the returned values truthfully form parts of one total. Effort and Labor Cost can compose across complete, single-valued categories such as one status or project per contribution. Active FTE can compose across such categories inside one reporting period because every part uses the same denominator.
The chart is blocked with an explanation when groups overlap, a result was capped, separate Metrics are not proven to partition one population, or units differ. Labels and other multi-valued fields can overlap. Successive Active FTE periods are rates rather than parts, so they are not Pie slices; a time chart may still stack disjoint categories separately inside each period.
